SWANSEA, Massachusetts  – Heartbreak has struck the community of Swansea following the tragic death of 53-year-old Amy Morrell, a dedicated staff member at Meadowridge Academy, a residential therapeutic school for youth and young adults.

According to officials, the incident occurred Wednesday night when a 14-year-old student reportedly attempted to leave a dormitory building without permission. During an effort to restrain the student, Morrell was allegedly kicked in the chest. She collapsed moments later as staff rushed to perform CPR and contacted emergency responders.

Morrell was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead on Thursday. Authorities confirmed that the 14-year-old girl has been charged with assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Amy Morrell is being remembered for her compassion, patience, and unwavering dedication to helping young people in need.
