HOOD RIVER COUNTY, Ore. – Tragedy struck on Wednesday night, October 15, 2025, when a three-vehicle collision claimed the life of a Hood River motorcyclist.

According to the Oregon State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 9:23 p.m. on Highway 281 near milepost 7. A southbound Subaru Impreza, driven by Pedro Jonathan Flores-Flores, 26, of Hood River, attempted to pass a Toyota Corolla in a no-passing zone and collided head-on with a northbound Honda VT750 motorcycle, operated by Phillip Mickey Himes, 37, also of Hood River.

Sadly, Himes was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries. The driver of the Toyota, Jesus Esquivel Martinez, 38, was reportedly uninjured.

Flores-Flores, who was also uninjured, was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII), Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering (2 counts), and Manslaughter in the First Degree.

The highway remained closed for approximately five hours as investigators worked at the scene. Oregon State Police were assisted by the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office, Hood River Police Department, Wyeast Fire, and ODOT.

The crash remains under investigation as the community mourns the loss of Phillip Mickey Himes, whose life was tragically cut short.
