FORWARD TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Two women were killed in a head-on collision that closed a major Butler County roadway for several hours Thursday morning.
The crash occurred around 10:44 a.m. on Evans City Road (Route 68). According to the Pennsylvania State Police, a 2019 Jeep Cherokee traveling west crossed the double yellow line and collided head-on with a 2014 Cadillac XTS traveling east.
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have identified the victims as Kathryn J. McGown, 69, of Evans City, who was driving the Jeep, and Marcia D. Carnahan, 80, of Slippery Rock, who was driving the Cadillac.
Police said McGown was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, while Carnahan was. The force of the collision caused significant damage to both vehicles, requiring emergency responders to secure the scene and assist with traffic control.
Evans City Road was closed for approximately four hours as investigators processed the scene. The Pennsylvania State Police continue to investigate the circumstances leading to the crash, including factors that may have contributed to the Jeep crossing into oncoming traffic.
