ELKHART COUNTY, Ind — Authorities are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 26-year-old South Bend woman on Saturday evening in Elkhart County.
The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Old US Highway 20. According to investigators, Nohelis Gonzalez Umbria was a passenger in a car that lost control due to wet road conditions. The driver reportedly overcorrected while trying to get back onto the roadway, causing the vehicle to move in front of another car. The second vehicle struck the passenger side, leading the first car to roll over.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, and both drivers were taken to the hospital with injuries. Unfortunately, Nohelis Gonzalez Umbria was pronounced dead as a result of the crash.
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
