SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. — Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred Saturday night in Springfield as 18-year-old Hector Santos Martinez.
According to Robertson County EMS, emergency crews responded to the scene where Martinez was found critically injured after his 2008 Honda CBR motorcycle was struck by a 2000 Nissan Xterra. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders and medical staff at TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center, Martinez was later pronounced dead.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) reports that the SUV was traveling east on West 21st Avenue when the driver ran a stop sign at South Main Street, colliding with Martinez’s motorcycle as it traveled north on Main Street. The impact caused both vehicles to come to rest on East 21st Avenue.
Officials say the driver of the Nissan fled the scene on foot, and charges are pending as the investigation continues. Security footage from a nearby business reportedly shows the moment the SUV ran the stop sign and hit the motorcycle.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol is asking anyone with information about the driver or the crash to contact authorities as they work to locate the suspect.
