Double Homicide Victims Identified in Michigan City

Authorities in Michigan City, Indiana, have released the identities of two victims in a devastating double homicide, while a juvenile suspect remains in custody as investigators work to piece together what led to the tragic incident.

The victims have been identified as Eddie Nixon, 67, and Sylvia White, 66, both found deceased inside their residence in the 100 block of Schofield Court. Michigan City Police confirmed the discovery but have not yet released details on how the victims were killed, citing the sensitivity and ongoing nature of the investigation.

The case began unfolding early Sunday morning, October 19, when La Porte County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a vehicle crash involving a juvenile near Johnson Road and West County Road 300 North. The incident led investigators to conduct a welfare check at the Schofield Court home, where the two victims were tragically found dead.

According to authorities, the juvenile suspect knew the victims, though the nature of their relationship has not been disclosed. The suspect is currently being held at the La Porte County Juvenile Services Center, awaiting the filing of formal charges.

La Porte County Prosecutor Sean Fagan stated that his office is carefully reviewing the case and has not yet decided whether to seek adult charges against the suspect. “These situations are incredibly complex,” Fagan said. “We want to make sure every factor—including the suspect’s age and the circumstances surrounding the crime—is thoroughly evaluated before moving forward.”

As of now, the age of the juvenile has not been released. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to collect evidence and interview witnesses to understand what led to this heartbreaking tragedy.

Officials are urging anyone with information about the case to contact the Michigan City Police Department’s Detective Bureau, as the community mourns the loss of two well-known residents whose lives were taken far too soon.
