HARTFORD, Conn — A tragic crash on Albany Avenue late Sunday night left one man dead and another with “non-survivable injuries,” according to Hartford police. The collision, which involved a vehicle fleeing from a traffic stop, closed the roadway for several hours early Monday morning.
Police identified the victim who died as 25-year-old Adrian Service of Hartford. The second driver, Martin Jammie, also of Hartford, sustained critical injuries and remains hospitalized.
The crash occurred just before midnight near 1510 Albany Avenue. Witnesses reported hearing tires screeching followed by a loud explosion. “It was so loud that it sounded like it was coming from inside the apartment,” said local resident Ocean Westberry, who lives across from the crash site.
According to investigators, officers had attempted to pull over the vehicle Jammie was driving before he fled, leading to the deadly crash. Jammie was ejected from his vehicle, which caught fire moments later. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, and emergency responders transported Jammie to the hospital.
Authorities later confirmed that firearms and narcotics were recovered from Jammie’s vehicle and that he was listed on the deadly weapons offense registry.
Service, the driver of the second vehicle, was trapped in the wreckage and required extrication. Despite emergency efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Hartford Fire Marshal and Traffic Division detectives assisted with the ongoing investigation. Albany Avenue remained closed between Mark Twain Drive and Homestead Avenue for several hours Monday morning as crews documented the scene.
Police continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Hartford Police Department.
