SLCPD Investigating Fatal Auto-Bicyclist Crash in Downtown Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY  — The Salt Lake City Police Department (SLCPD) is investigating a deadly crash that claimed the life of a bicyclist Monday evening in downtown Salt Lake City.

Authorities said the investigation began around 7:29 p.m., after multiple 911 calls reported a man struck by a vehicle near 500 South and 300 West. Officers from the SLCPD Central Patrol Division, along with Salt Lake City Fire and Gold Cross paramedics, responded to the scene and located 59-year-old Scott Hunt suffering from critical, life-threatening injuries.

Hunt was transported to a local hospital, where he died several hours later, police confirmed.

Preliminary findings indicate that a car traveling westbound on 500 South struck Hunt as he was crossing the roadway on his bicycle near 300 West. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with investigators.

Members of the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians responded to process the scene and gather evidence.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine what led to the fatal collision.

SLCPD emphasized that the information released is preliminary and may change as the investigation develops. No additional details are being released at this time.

Authorities extended their condolences to the family and loved ones of Scott Hunt as they mourn this tragic loss.
