OGDEN, Utah — A tragic shooting in an Ogden neighborhood early Saturday morning has left a 15-year-old girl, identified by family as Chanelle, dead, and a juvenile suspect in custody.
According to the Ogden City Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire around 3 a.m. near the 3500 block of Jackson Avenue. When they arrived, they found one juvenile victim suffering from fatal injuries. Despite emergency efforts, Chanelle was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following an investigation, detectives identified a juvenile suspect from Syracuse City, who has since been taken into custody and is facing a murder charge. Police have stated that they believe there is no ongoing threat to the community.
Due to the ages of those involved, officials have not released the names of the suspect or further details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The investigation remains active and ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Weber Dispatch at 801-395-8221.
Friends and family have created a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral expenses and honor Chanelle’s memory. The page describes her as “a beautiful and feisty soul with a gracious smile, a contagious laugh, and a light that filled every room.”
“Our hearts are shattered,” the family wrote. “Her life was taken far too soon at just 15 years old. Words can’t begin to describe the pain we feel.”
Community members continue to mourn Chanelle’s loss, remembering her as a bright, loving young girl whose life ended far too soon.
