The Essex community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Andrik Cortes Morfin, a beloved 23-year-old whose life was tragically cut short in a motorcycle crash on Monday, October 20.
According to police, the crash happened around 4:30 p.m. near Pulaski Highway and Stevens Road, when Morfin’s 2025 Kawasaki motorcycle collided with a 2025 Chevy Trax exiting a parking lot. Morfin was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Born in February 2002 in Mexico, Andrik was the cherished son of Angel Cortes and Susana Morfin, and the beloved brother of Mackenna and Derek Cortes Morfin. He is also survived by his grandparents, Linda Martinez and Efrain Cortes, along with many loving cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Friends describe Andrik as kind-hearted, adventurous, and full of life. “Though his life was short, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing him,” wrote close friend Sara Cosby.
A GoFundMe organized by Cosby has raised more than $10,000 to help support Andrik’s family with funeral expenses. “The family is heartbroken over this tragic loss,” shared Carol Pappas. “Please consider donating to help during this unbearable time.”
A viewing will be held Monday, Oct. 27, from 4–8 p.m. at Connelly Funeral Home of Essex, followed by a Funeral Mass on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Interment will be private.
