HARTFORD, Conn. — A second person has died following a violent crash in Hartford late Sunday night, police confirmed.
The incident happened just before midnight near 1510 Albany Avenue. Officers responded after reports of a fiery two-vehicle crash that left one person trapped and another ejected from a car.
Police identified the first victim, 25-year-old Adrian Service of Hartford, who was pronounced dead at the scene after being extricated from his vehicle. The second victim, Jammie Martin, also of Hartford, was ejected from the other vehicle, which caught fire shortly after impact. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and medics performed a rapid trauma assessment before transporting Martin to a local hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries on Wednesday.
Investigators say the crash occurred after officers attempted a traffic stop. Martin, the driver of the fleeing vehicle, reportedly sped away before losing control and colliding with Service’s car.
Police later recovered firearms and drugs from the suspect’s vehicle and confirmed that Martin was listed on the deadly weapons offense registry.
Residents described hearing screeching tires and a “very loud boom” moments before the crash. “It was so loud that it sounded like it was coming from inside the apartment,” said witness Ocean Westberry.
Albany Avenue was closed between Mark Twain Drive and Homestead Avenue for several hours Monday morning as detectives, firefighters, and the fire marshal processed the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing.
