YAKIMA, Wash — A tragic incident early Saturday morning claimed the life of 28-year-old Alejandro Hernandez Baez after he was struck by a vehicle in downtown Yakima.
According to the Yakima Police Department, officers were called to the 100 block of South Second Street around 1:40 a.m. When they arrived, they found Baez lying in a parking lot suffering from severe injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts by officers and medical personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police later located the suspect’s vehicle in the Moxee area and identified the driver as a 29-year-old man, who was subsequently arrested and booked into the Yakima County Jail on charges of Vehicular Homicide. Investigators say the suspect and Baez had been at a local bar earlier in the night and were reportedly involved in an argument before the deadly crash occurred.
