BOZEMAN, Mont. — Authorities are investigating a tragic crash that claimed the life of a Belgrade motorcyclist early Wednesday morning.
According to the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office and the Montana Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 7:00 a.m. on October 23 at the intersection of Jackrabbit Lane and Baxter Lane. The crash involved a Rockport cargo truck and a Chappy YZFR7 motorcycle.
The motorcyclist, identified as 27-year-old Damian Xavier Saavedra of Belgrade, was pronounced dead at the scene. Sheriff Dan Springer extended his deepest condolences to Saavedra’s family and friends, calling the loss “heartbreaking for the entire community.”
Investigators said Saavedra was traveling southbound on Jackrabbit Lane at a high rate of speed when his motorcycle collided with the left side of the cargo truck. The truck, driven by a 60-year-old man from Silver Star, was reportedly attempting a U-turn at the time of the crash. The truck driver was not injured.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision, including speed, visibility, and roadway conditions.
