PHOENIX, Ariz. — A tragic hit-and-run crash early Friday morning claimed the life of 32-year-old Miguel Alteres near 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
Authorities said they were called to the scene around 5:45 a.m., where they found Alteres suffering from critical injuries in the roadway. Emergency crews from the Phoenix Fire Department arrived moments later and confirmed that Alteres had died from his injuries despite life-saving efforts.
Investigators determined that Alteres was attempting to cross 43rd Avenue, just north of McDowell Road, when he was struck by a gray Jeep Cherokee. Witnesses reported seeing a woman briefly exit the vehicle before getting back in and driving away from the scene without rendering aid.
On Saturday, police identified and arrested 24-year-old Michelle Guzman-Garcia in connection with the crash. She is now facing charges related to the fatal hit-and-run.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident and urge anyone with additional information to contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (948-6377) or 480-TESTIGO (837-8446). A $2,000 reward is being offered for information leading to further developments in the case.
