ELGIN, ON — The Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a tragic incident that claimed the life of a pedestrian on Highway 15 near the village of Elgin in the Township of Rideau Lakes on Saturday, October 25, 2025.

According to police, the crash occurred shortly after 9:00 p.m. when a pedestrian, identified as 43-year-old Nick Simmons of Kingston, was struck by a southbound SUV. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but sadly, Simmons was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the SUV was not injured.

The OPP East Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team is leading the investigation with assistance from the Technical Collision Investigation Unit (TCI) and an OPP Collision Reconstructionist. Authorities closed a section of Highway 15 for several hours to allow for a detailed investigation before reopening it to traffic.

At this time, no charges have been filed. A postmortem examination has been ordered and will be conducted in the near future to help determine the exact cause of death.
