MONROE, La. — A devastating tragedy has left the Monroe community in mourning after three lives including that of a 2-year-old girl were taken in a horrific triple homicide early Tuesday morning.
Around 2:30 a.m., police responded to a home on Grammont Street, near the city’s public works department, where they discovered two men and a young child suffering from fatal gunshot wounds to the head. Authorities later identified the victims as Li Ojay “Ojay” Simpson, his 2-year-old daughter Jhersi Simpson, and Jamal Bank. All were pronounced dead at the scene.
The loss has shaken Monroe to its core. Ojay Simpson, remembered as a loving father and devoted family man, was deeply cherished by all who knew him. His daughter, Jhersi, was described as pure joy — a bright, innocent soul whose laughter could light up any room. The bond between father and daughter was inseparable, and their tragic deaths have left a void that words can scarcely describe.
What makes this tragedy even more unbearable is its timing baby Jhersi’s death came on her grandmother’s birthday, just one week after her mother’s. Loved ones say the pain is unimaginable, a heartbreak that will take a lifetime to heal.
Friends and neighbors have gathered to honor their memories, leaving flowers, balloons, and candles near the family’s home. As one mourner shared through tears, “They didn’t deserve this. Ojay loved that baby more than anything. It’s just not fair.”
Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. For now, the community grieves together, holding onto love, faith, and the hope that justice will be served.
May Ojay, Jhersi, and Jamal rest in eternal peace.
