BRUNSWICK, Maine – Authorities are investigating a devastating hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of 23-year-old Silas Octavi Esquivel Perez late Monday night on Old Bath Road near the Route 1 overpass.
According to the Brunswick Police Department, the crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. when a vehicle struck Perez, who was riding his bicycle. Emergency responders arrived to find Perez with severe injuries, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the driver, identified as 41-year-old Lance Lucas-Wallace of Brunswick, initially fled the scene before later returning, where he was taken into custody. Police confirmed that Lucas-Wallace was under the influence at the time of the crash.
He has been charged with manslaughter, aggravated leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, and operating under the influence resulting in death. Following his arrest, he was booked into the Cumberland County Jail, with bail set at $100,000.
