KENDALL COUNTY, Texas — A devastating crash on Interstate 10 Monday afternoon claimed the lives of 23-year-old Giselle Cristobal and two young boys, leaving the Kendall County community in mourning. The accident occurred just before 3:30 p.m. on the westbound lanes near Mile Marker 524, when a 2018 Cascadia tractor-trailer collided with a 2013 GMC Sierra that had been stopped in the right lane.
Authorities from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) confirmed that Cristobal and the two male children were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the GMC Sierra, a 31-year-old woman, was transported to a San Antonio medical center for treatment, while a 2-year-old girl was airlifted to the hospital with injuries.
The crash has left the community shaken. Local resident George Rodriguez expressed the collective grief, saying, “I mean it’s terrible. It’s never really happened to me or anybody close to my family right, but it’s just tragic.” Another area resident, Bryan Salinas, noted the dangers on the highway, saying, “I’ve seen it happen many times,” highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety and driver awareness.
The Texas Trucking Association offered condolences to the victims’ families and stressed the importance of safety initiatives like the “Share the Road” program, which promotes driver education and awareness to help prevent future tragedies.
The Texas DPS has confirmed that the investigation into the crash is ongoing, and no further details have been released. Officials continue to review the circumstances surrounding the collision, including the role of speed, stopping distances, and visibility, as part of their investigation.
As the community mourns the loss of Cristobal and the two young children, families and neighbors are coming together to support one another during this tragic time. The crash serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance on the road and the fragility of life, with many calling for increased awareness and safety measures on Interstate 10.
