WEST MONROE, La. — The West Monroe community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Jason Ellis, 41, who was fatally struck by a vehicle late Tuesday night along Cypress Street near Jackson Street.

According to authorities, Ellis was walking when a dark-colored sedan traveling eastbound hit him and fled the scene. Moments later, a second vehicle traveling westbound also struck Ellis, but that driver remained on scene and fully cooperated with law enforcement. Emergency responders arrived promptly, but despite their efforts, Ellis was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Friends, neighbors, and community members have expressed deep sorrow over Ellis’s passing, remembering him as a kind, hardworking man who had been a valued member of the West Monroe community for many years. Many shared their frustration and heartbreak that the first driver chose to flee rather than assist, leaving a family and community in mourning.

The West Monroe Police Department is actively investigating the incident and seeking public assistance in locating the suspect vehicle, described as a dark-colored sedan with visible damage to the front driver’s side headlight and possibly along the driver’s side panel. Authorities are reviewing traffic footage, collecting witness statements, and asking local businesses to check surveillance cameras.

Police have urged anyone who may have seen the vehicle or has relevant dashcam or home surveillance footage to contact the department at 318-396-2722. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers of North Delta at 318-388-CASH (2274), with potential rewards offered for information leading to an arrest.
