SALUDA COUNTY, S.C. — Heartbreak and sorrow fill the hearts of many as the community mourns the loss of 35-year-old Rakeem West of Batesburg, South Carolina, who tragically passed away on October 29, 2025, following a devastating car accident in Saluda County.
According to the Saluda County Coroner’s Office, Rakeem was driving a 2005 Honda Accord on U.S. Highway 178 near Prater Road when his vehicle collided with another car on October 27. He was airlifted to Prisma Health Richland, where doctors and nurses fought tirelessly to save his life. Despite every effort, Rakeem succumbed to his injuries two days later.
Those who knew Rakeem describe him as a bright light — a man with a big heart, an easy smile, and a deep love for his family and friends. He was known for his kindness, his strength, and the way he could lift others’ spirits even on their darkest days. His loved ones say he was the type of person who would give without asking for anything in return, someone who worked hard and loved harder.
