FRESNO, Calif. — It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that the community of Fresno mourns the tragic loss of 24-year-old Faustino Mancilla, who was fatally shot Wednesday evening, October 29, 2025.
According to the Fresno Police Department, officers were dispatched around 6:45 p.m. to the area of Poppy Avenue and California Avenue following reports of a shooting. When they arrived, officers discovered Mancilla suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by paramedics, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators say the shooting occurred during a gathering at a residence in the area. At some point, an argument broke out between Mancilla and another individual, escalating within moments into deadly violence. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.
Now, homicide detectives are working tirelessly to uncover the motive and identify the suspect responsible for the senseless act. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that even the smallest detail could help bring justice for Faustino and closure for his grieving family.
This marks the 17th homicide in Fresno this year — a sobering reminder of the ongoing violence that continues to devastate families and communities. At this time last year, there had been 26 murders.
