CHINA, Texas — Authorities have identified the victim in a tragic accident that occurred Monday afternoon in China, Texas. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 68-year-old Guillermo Contreras, a resident of Liberty, was killed after being struck by a large truck near an oil field along Vera Road.

Deputies and emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene at approximately 1:45 p.m. after reports of a serious injury involving a pedestrian. When first responders arrived, they found Contreras critically injured. Despite immediate efforts to save him, he was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel.

According to preliminary reports, Contreras was being transported to a nearby medical facility when the tragic incident occurred. The driver of the truck remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with investigators. Authorities have not released additional details pending the completion of the investigation.
