The Sunshine Coast community is heartbroken following the tragic loss of eight-year-old Zeke Hondow, who passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025, after a head-on collision between two electrically powered bicycles near Mountain Creek, close to the Kawana Way and Sunshine Motorway interchanges. Zeke, affectionately known as “little Zeke,” was traveling home from school when the devastating accident occurred around 3:36 PM.

Despite the rapid response of emergency services and his swift transport to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, Zeke’s life could not be saved. Authorities confirmed that both Zeke and the fifteen-year-old involved were wearing protective headgear at the time of the collision. The older youth is voluntarily assisting police as the investigation continues.

Zeke’s family, friends, and the entire Sunshine Coast community are grappling with immense grief at the loss of a young life so full of promise and joy. Known for his bright spirit, enthusiasm, and love of adventure, Zeke touched the hearts of everyone who knew him. His laughter, curiosity, and warmth are deeply missed, leaving a void that cannot be filled.

In response to this tragedy, a fundraising page has been established to support Zeke’s family during this difficult time, honoring the memory of a child taken far too soon. Contributors have expressed profound sorrow, remembering him as a beloved little boy whose “angel wings” now watch over his loved ones.

Queensland officials, including Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg and Attorney-General Deb Frecklington, have expressed their condolences and highlighted the need for stronger e-bike safety regulations to prevent future tragedies.

Zeke Hondow’s life, though tragically brief, left an enduring mark on his family, friends, and community. His spirit, innocence, and joy will be remembered always, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
