AUGUSTA, Ga  — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 28-year-old Deunte Myers early Tuesday morning.

Deputies responded to reports of gunfire in the 2700 block of Deen Avenue around 7:35 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found Myers suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to Wellstar MCG Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 8:13 a.m., according to the Richmond County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities quickly identified 21-year-old Tyrese Artavious Wesby as a suspect in the case. Later in the day, investigators confirmed that Wesby had been arrested in connection with the deadly shooting. He is reportedly known to drive a black Chevrolet Tahoe with Georgia tag SJV2970.

Following the shooting, multiple patrol units and investigators remained on scene for several hours, canvassing the area and interviewing neighbors as part of the ongoing investigation. The Richmond County Marshal’s Office also assisted at the scene.

Officials have not yet released details about what led up to the shooting, and the motive remains under investigation.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office expressed condolences to the family of Deunte Myers, whose sudden loss has left loved ones and the local community in mourning.
