HIGHLAND, IN — The community of Highland is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 47-year-old Theodore McSwine, who tragically lost his life in a single-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning.
According to the Highland Police Department, the incident occurred around 4:40 a.m. along the 9200 block of U.S. 41, also known as Indianapolis Boulevard. Responding officers arrived after receiving reports of a vehicle rollover and discovered a 2021 Jeep that had gone off the roadway and into an open lot before striking a tree. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn, leaving behind a devastating scene.
The driver, identified as Theodore McSwine of Highland, was found inside the vehicle. Despite the immediate efforts of emergency responders, he sadly did not survive the crash. Officials confirmed that Theodore was the sole occupant of the Jeep, and no other vehicles were involved.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office later conducted an autopsy to determine the exact cause of his passing, as investigators continue to look into potential contributing factors such as weather, road conditions, and vehicle issues.
Authorities temporarily closed part of Indianapolis Boulevard as crews worked to clear the wreckage and document the scene. The road has since reopened.
