LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss — The Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a deadly crash that claimed the life of 32-year-old Daniel Lee Maddox Thursday evening.
According to Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant, the accident occurred just after 6 p.m. on Highway 69 South, just north of the intersection with Hughes Road. Maddox was traveling north on Highway 69 when he reportedly lost control of his vehicle and collided with a southbound Nissan SUV.
Emergency personnel quickly arrived on the scene, but despite their best efforts, Maddox was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries. The driver of the Nissan was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital–Golden Triangle, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities temporarily closed the roadway as crews worked to investigate the crash and clear debris from the area. The cause of the accident remains under active investigation as officials work to determine what may have led to the vehicle losing control.
The sudden loss of Daniel Maddox has left family, friends, and the community in shock and mourning. Loved ones remember him as a hardworking and kind-hearted man who was deeply loved by those around him.
As the investigation continues, law enforcement urges motorists to exercise caution and remain alert on local highways, especially during evening travel.
