MANKATO, Minn. — Authorities have arrested 23-year-old A’Quan Kaishaid Laurence Thorton of Mankato in connection with the fatal shooting of 27-year-old Muridi Hassan Hussein, also of Mankato. The incident occurred on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at approximately 9:25 a.m. in the 400 block of Holly Lane.

According to Mankato Police, following the shooting, Hussein drove his vehicle to a parking lot near Star Street, close to Dunkin’ Donuts, where he was pronounced deceased. A firearm was recovered at the scene, and authorities say the suspect is believed to be responsible for the incident.

The Mankato Department of Public Safety said the public is not at risk following the arrest. The investigation is being led by Mankato Police, with assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and the Minnesota River Valley Drug Task Force. Officers are asking anyone with information or surveillance footage related to the shooting to contact 911.

The original call came in around 9:30 a.m., when authorities were notified of a shooting in the Holly Lane area. Officers located Hussein inside a vehicle on the 1600 block of Madison Avenue, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation remains active, and authorities say additional details will be released as they become available. Law enforcement from multiple jurisdictions are involved in the ongoing inquiry.

The Mankato community mourns the loss of Muridi Hassan Hussein, and authorities continue to work diligently to ensure justice is served while keeping the public safe.
