PHOENIX, Ariz. — A tragic crash claimed the life of a 78-year-old man and left another person seriously injured Sunday morning at the intersection of 19th Avenue and Encanto Boulevard, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Authorities say the collision occurred around 10:30 a.m. when two vehicles collided under circumstances still under investigation. Upon arrival, officers found both vehicles heavily damaged and both drivers trapped inside.

Phoenix Fire Department crews responded quickly, providing emergency medical care to both individuals before transporting them to a nearby hospital. Sadly, Ronald Johnson, 78, succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. The second driver was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, officials confirmed.

Police say no signs of impairment were observed from either driver, but detectives are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash, including factors such as speed and right-of-way.
