WHARTON, Texas — A heartbreaking tragedy struck the Wharton community Saturday evening when 62-year-old Sharon Llanes lost her life in an auto-pedestrian crash on East Boling Highway.
According to the Wharton Police Department, officers were dispatched around 6:00 p.m. on November 8, 2025, to the 500 block of East Boling Highway, where they found Sharon deceased at the scene. Her identity has since been confirmed, and her family has been notified.
Investigators say the driver involved, 40-year-old Darelle Baxter, also of Wharton, immediately called 911 and remained on the scene, fully cooperating with law enforcement. Field sobriety testing at the scene showed no signs of impairment, though a toxicology report is pending. A blood search warrant was obtained as standard procedure, and the investigation remains active.
The Wharton Police Department has not filed any charges at this time but continues to review all evidence and witness statements.
Sharon’s passing has left a deep ache in the hearts of all who knew her.
