According to officials, the incident occurred in the northbound lanes between State Roads 32 and 26, near mile marker 247, around the early morning hours. Sheriff Skinner had stopped to help a motorist whose vehicle had broken down on the side of the highway when a northbound tractor-trailer struck his patrol vehicle. Despite the swift efforts of emergency responders, he sadly succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office released a heartfelt statement following the tragedy:
