CORAM, NY — The Coram and broader New York community is grieving the loss of Verbena Tina Louise Santo, a passionate animal and human advocate whose life was tragically cut short. Tina passed away last night, surrounded by love, following a devastating accident last week in a Trader Joe’s parking lot. She had been critically injured after being struck by a vehicle, pinned between two cars, and was freed by first responders using the jaws of life. Tina remained on life support in critical condition until her passing.

Tina’s spirit and compassion touched everyone she met. She was known not only for her deep love for animals but also for her unwavering dedication to helping people. Friends and family remember her as someone who could light up a room, offer comfort in times of need, and advocate tirelessly for those without a voice—whether human or animal.

A lifelong New Yorker, Tina grew up in Albertson and attended Herricks High School before studying at SUNY Buffalo. Professionally, she worked as a travel consultant at Blue Ribbon Travel in Stony Brook and previously at Personal Travel. She approached her career with the same care and dedication she showed in all aspects of her life, making a positive impact on everyone she worked with.

Tina’s love for animals was a defining part of her life. She cared deeply for her nine cats, each of whom played a central role in her daily life. In her memory, her family and friends are asking the community to consider adopting one of her cats, offering them loving “furrever” homes and keeping Tina’s legacy of compassion alive.

Though her life was tragically brief, Tina’s influence resonates far beyond those who knew her personally. She inspired acts of kindness, instilled a sense of empathy, and reminded everyone around her of the importance of caring for both people and animals. Her loss is felt deeply across Coram, Stony Brook, and beyond, leaving a void that will not be easily filled.

As the community mourns, Tina’s life is celebrated for the joy, love, and advocacy she brought into the world. She leaves behind a legacy of courage, kindness, and a reminder that one person’s heart and dedication can make a lasting difference. Tina Louise Santo will be remembered, cherished, and honored by all whose lives she touched.
