The Conover community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 38-year-old Joe Xiong, who tragically passed away following a crash along Interstate 40 on Wednesday night, November 12th.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 8:07 p.m. near mile marker 130 in Catawba County. Joe was driving his 1995 Honda Civic westbound when his vehicle veered off the right side of the road and struck several trees. Emergency crews rushed to the scene and transported him to Catawba Valley Medical Center, but despite their efforts, Joe succumbed to his injuries. Investigators believe that speed may have played a role in the crash, but the investigation is still ongoing.

As news of his passing spread, grief rippled through the Conover community. Friends, family, and neighbors describe Joe as a kind-hearted and humble man — someone who brought light wherever he went. He was known for his gentle smile, his willingness to help anyone in need, and the deep love he held for his family.

Those who knew Joe remember his laughter at family gatherings, his dedication to his work, and his quiet strength that comforted those around him. His sudden passing has left a void that words cannot fill — a silence that echoes in the hearts of everyone who loved him.

Joe’s family is now left to face the unimaginable pain of losing a son, a brother, and a friend far too soon. As they navigate this difficult journey of grief, the community has come together in support, offering prayers, food, and comfort in every way possible.

Though Joe’s time on earth was cut short, his memory will continue to live on in the stories, laughter, and love he shared. Every road he traveled, every person he touched, will forever hold a part of him.

May the soul of Joe Xiong rest in eternal peace. May his family find strength in knowing he is at peace, watching over them from above. Gone too soon, but never forgotten — his light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
