ST. PAUL, MN — A quiet stretch of I-94 turned into the scene of heartbreak early Tuesday morning, November 12, 2025, after a speeding vehicle caused a devastating crash that claimed the life of 31-year-old Benjamin Michael Villano, a St. Paul resident remembered for his kindness, humor, and generous spirit.

According to the initial report, 22-year-old Musab Ibrahim Kosar, of Fridley, was driving a Tesla at a high rate of speed when he exited the freeway and struck an SUV crossing the intersection at Dale Street. The driver of the SUV, 31-year-old Benjamin Michael Villano, of St. Paul, suffered critical injuries and was transported to Regions Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Kosar and his passenger, a 19-year-old woman, were also taken to Regions Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities say that all three individuals involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts. It remains unclear at this time whether alcohol or drugs played a factor in the collision.

Witnesses described hearing a loud crash followed by sirens as emergency responders rushed to the scene. “It was just this huge boom, and then flashing lights everywhere,” said one resident who lives nearby. “You never think something like that will happen so close to home.”

The force of the impact scattered debris across the roadway, prompting officials to temporarily close the exit ramp as investigators from the State Patrol’s crash reconstruction team examined the scene. Troopers spent several hours collecting evidence, reviewing skid marks, and working to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the fatal crash.

Authorities have emphasized the dangers of excessive speed, particularly on exit ramps and intersections where reaction times are reduced. “Speeding continues to be one of the leading causes of fatal crashes on Minnesota roads,” said a spokesperson for the State Patrol. “This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of how quickly reckless decisions can end lives.”

Family and friends of Benjamin Villano are now mourning the sudden loss of a man described as compassionate, hardworking, and full of life. Those who knew him say he had a big heart and was always willing to help others.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing. Officials urge drivers to slow down, stay alert, and remember that even a few seconds saved by speeding are never worth a lifetime of loss.
