MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas – Heartbreak struck Montgomery County on Wednesday after deputies discovered a man and woman dead in what investigators believe was a murder-suicide following a domestic dispute.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said the tragedy began when someone called 911 to report a violent altercation between a man and a woman inside a blue Chevrolet pickup truck near FM 1314 and SH 99. According to witnesses, the two appeared to be physically fighting as the truck was parked along the road. Concerned for their safety, the caller provided details to authorities, prompting an immediate search.
Deputies later located the vehicle in the 202000 block of Duester Lane in Porter. When they approached, they discovered a horrific scene inside — both individuals had suffered fatal gunshot wounds. Authorities later identified the victims as 41-year-old Kevin Doak and 28-year-old Victoria Yates.
Investigators believe Doak fatally shot Yates before turning the gun on himself. Evidence collected at the scene supported this theory, though the investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to piece together what led to the tragic events.
Neighbors in the area expressed shock and sadness as word of the incident spread. Many described the event as deeply unsettling, saying it’s a reminder of how quickly domestic disputes can turn deadly.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities are urging anyone experiencing domestic violence or relationship crisis to seek help before tragedy strikes.
The deaths of Kevin Doak and Victoria Yates have left family members and friends grieving an unimaginable loss. What began as a call for help ended in heartbreak — a somber reminder of the devastating toll of violence within relationships.
