Cookville Man Arrested for Murder Following Homicide Investigation in Titus County
COOKVILLE, TEXAS — A quiet community in northeast Texas is grappling with shock and grief after a domestic disturbance turned deadly over the weekend. A 54-year-old Amy Denmon Allen was found dead at her residence, and her husband has been arrested and charged with murder, according to the Titus County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred on Sunday, June 1, 2025, when deputies were dispatched to a home located in the 500 block of County Road 3130 in Cookville, a small rural area just outside Mount Pleasant. The call came in as a report of a possible homicide. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found a woman unresponsive inside the home.
The victim was later identified as Amy Denmon Allen, age 54. Emergency personnel confirmed that she was deceased at the scene. The specific cause of death has not been released at this time, pending the results of an autopsy.
Also present at the scene was Amy’s husband, 52-year-old Michael Paul Allen, who was detained by deputies without incident. According to the Titus County Sheriff’s Office, Michael Allen was transported to the sheriff’s department for questioning by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID).
Following a detailed interview and evidence collected at the scene, investigators determined there was probable cause to arrest Michael Allen in connection with his wife’s death. He was formally charged with Murder and booked into the Titus County Jail on Sunday evening.
On Monday, June 2, Allen was arraigned, and a $1,000,000 bond was set by a Titus County magistrate.
A Community in Shock
The tragic incident has left neighbors and local residents in disbelief. Cookville, a small and typically quiet community, has rarely experienced violent crime, making the news even more jarring for those who knew the couple or live nearby.
“Things like this don’t happen around here,” said one neighbor, who asked not to be named. “Amy was always kind, always had a smile. To hear that something so terrible happened inside that house—it just breaks your heart.”
Another resident described seeing emergency vehicles at the home and initially believing it might have been a medical emergency. “We never imagined it would turn out to be something so serious,” the resident said. “It’s deeply upsetting.”
Ongoing Investigation
While authorities have made an arrest, the case remains under active investigation. The Titus County Sheriff’s Office has not released additional details about what may have led up to the shooting, or the events that unfolded inside the home on Sunday morning. Investigators have also not commented on whether there was any history of domestic issues between the couple.
A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said, “This remains a very sensitive and developing situation. We are doing everything we can to thoroughly investigate this case and ensure justice is served for the victim and her family.”
The body of Amy Allen has been transported to the medical examiner’s office for autopsy and further forensic examination. Officials hope the results will provide clarity on the cause and manner of death, which could play a critical role in the case moving forward.
Legal Proceedings Ahead
Michael Paul Allen remains in custody as of this report, held on a $1 million bond. It is not yet clear if he has obtained legal representation or when his next court appearance is scheduled.
If convicted, Allen could face significant prison time, including the possibility of a life sentence under Texas law.
As the investigation continues, the Titus County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with relevant information to come forward. Tips can be submitted directly to the Sheriff’s Office or through Crime Stoppers.
