Apache Junction Police Officer Critically Injured, Suspect Also Hurt in Monday Morning Shooting

APACHE JUNCTION, AZ — An Apache Junction police officer is fighting for his life after being critically injured in a shooting Monday morning. The incident, which also left a suspect wounded, unfolded after police received multiple 911 calls reporting a man driving in the area while armed with a firearm.

According to authorities, officers responded quickly to the call and encountered the armed suspect near the intersection of Tomahawk Road and Broadway Avenue. During the encounter, gunfire was exchanged, critically injuring one officer. The suspect was also shot and injured in the exchange.

The wounded officer was rushed to a nearby hospital where he remains in critical condition. The suspect was also transported for medical treatment, though their condition has not yet been made public.

ABC15’s Rachel Louise Just was on the scene throughout the day, capturing footage of a heavy police presence, including marked and unmarked vehicles, detectives, and investigators combing through the area for evidence. A large section of the road was cordoned off as law enforcement worked to reconstruct the scene.

Apache Junction Police have not released the names of either the officer or the suspect at this time. The Arizona Department of Public Safety has been called in to assist with the investigation, which remains active and ongoing.

City officials and local leaders have expressed support and prayers for the injured officer and their family. Residents are encouraged to avoid the area as the investigation continues and to stay tuned for updates from law enforcement.
