Valparaiso Police Investigating Deadly Shooting; Suspect Arrested

VALPARAISO, IN — The Valparaiso Police Department is actively investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on the evening of Monday, June 2, 2025, in the 1900 block of Chicago Street, leaving Trayveon Triplett, a 24-year-old resident of Valparaiso dead and another in police custody.

Officers were dispatched to the area around 7:30 p.m. following multiple reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they located a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by first responders, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Porter County Coroner’s Office later identified the deceased as Trayveon Triplett, a 24-year-old resident of Valparaiso. An autopsy is pending to determine the official cause of death.

As initial reports indicated the possibility that the suspect may have remained in the area or had barricaded himself inside a nearby apartment, the Porter County Emergency Response Team was called in to assist. Investigators quickly focused their search on a nearby residence and were able to determine the likely location of the suspect.

At approximately 8:40 p.m., police located Kuran Kinley, 24, of Highland, Indiana, in the 300 block of Indiana Avenue. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Valparaiso Police Department for questioning. Kinley has since been booked into the Porter County Jail on preliminary charges of Murder and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Police have not released information regarding a motive or the nature of the relationship between the suspect and the victim. The incident remains under active investigation, and authorities are working to gather all available evidence and witness statements.

“This was a coordinated effort involving multiple agencies,” said a spokesperson for the Valparaiso Police Department. “We are committed to a thorough and transparent investigation, and we thank the community for their cooperation and patience.”
