According to the Ellenville Police Department, officers were dispatched to Center Street shortly after 10 a.m. following reports of a physical altercation involving knives. Upon arrival, officers found the scene empty, but quickly noticed a trail of blood leading away from the location.
Following the trail, officers were led to Warren Street, where they found 32-year-old Christopher Nadal suffering from multiple stab wounds, including one to his arm that penetrated “down to the bone.” Nadal was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Also found at the scene was 54-year-old Frederick Thompson, who had sustained a head injury during the altercation. According to police, Thompson refused further medical attention but was found in possession of multiple knives. He was arrested on felony charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon, and held without bail due to prior felony convictions.
Investigators later reviewed video footage of the incident, which reportedly showed Nadal initiating the confrontation by punching Thompson. After receiving medical care, Nadal was released from the hospital and charged with misdemeanor assault.
Authorities believe the fight stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the two men over social media postings. Police described the confrontation as both preventable and dangerous, highlighting the risks of digital disagreements spilling over into real-world violence.
“This was a reckless act in a public setting that endangered not only those involved, but the broader community,” said a spokesperson for the Ellenville Police Department.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed as police continue to review evidence and interview witnesses. Anyone with further information is encouraged to contact the Ellenville Police Department.
Both men are expected to appear in court as the case proceeds through the legal system.
