Arrests Made in Connection to Ongoing Homicide Investigation

Kinston, N.C. (August 30, 2025) — Two men are facing serious weapons charges following a search warrant executed as part of the ongoing investigation into the murder of Daryl Dudley, authorities announced.

On Friday, August 29, 2025, detectives with the Kinston Police Department, assisted by the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team (SRT), carried out a search at 309 McDaniels Street. During the operation, investigators recovered three firearms, including two handguns—one of which had been illegally modified with a “switch” device converting it into a fully automatic weapon—as well as an AR-style pistol.

Inside the room where the firearms were recovered, officers located 20-year-old Yahmeek Coward and 24-year-old Shakoy Williams. Both individuals were arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a Machine Gun
  • Possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction

Authorities confirmed that Coward was released after posting bond, while Williams remains in custody under a secured bond.

The homicide investigation into Dudley’s death remains active, and additional charges may follow as detectives continue their work. Officials are urging anyone with information to contact the Kinston Police Department or Lenoir County Crime Stoppers.
