High-Speed Collision on U.S. Highway 57 Leaves One Dead; Police Investigating

LA PRYOR, Texas — One person is dead following a high-speed collision on U.S. Highway 57 Tuesday afternoon.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers responded around 2:45 p.m. near mile marker 424 after reports of a head-on crash. Investigators say a black 2024 Hyundai Sonata, traveling westbound, crossed over the yellow center line and collided with a grey 2024 Ford F-150 traveling eastbound.

The Hyundai’s driver, 25-year-old Omar Tarid of Richmond, Texas, was seriously injured and transported to University Hospital in San Antonio, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Ford pickup has not been publicly identified, and authorities have not released information regarding their condition. DPS continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
