BATON ROUGE, La. — Baton Rouge Police are investigating a deadly shooting that claimed the life of 19-year-old Robert Forkner early Monday morning.
The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of Government Street and South Foster Drive. Investigators say Forkner was inside his car when he was struck by gunfire. The vehicle then veered off the roadway and crashed into the sign of a Smoothie King located along Government Street.
Forkner was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died later that afternoon. A passenger in the car was also hit during the gunfire but is expected to survive after being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives believe the shooting was targeted, though no suspects have been publicly identified. As of Monday, no arrests have been made in connection to the killing.
