DAYTON, Ohio — The Darke County community is mourning the loss of 67-year-old Michael Roth of Union City, who died Monday after a tragic lawn mower accident.
According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and medics responded shortly before 1 p.m. to the intersection of Coletown-Lightsville Road and Zumbrum Road. Roth was mowing a steep side ditch when his Toro lawn mower lost traction, overturned, and trapped him. It is unclear how long he remained pinned before being located.
Emergency responders, including Ansonia Fire & Rescue, Union City Fire & Rescue, and the Darke County Coroner, arrived at the scene, but Roth tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities confirmed the incident is under active investigation as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident. They also reminded residents to exercise caution when operating machinery on steep or uneven terrain.
