COMPTON, Calif. — Authorities have identified the man who tragically lost his life following a shooting in Compton last week. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the victim as 46-year-old Aaron Hammer.
The shooting unfolded around 10:40 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, in the 13000 block of South Long Beach Boulevard. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, deputies pursued a vehicle carrying three suspects after spotting it on the westbound Artesia (91) Freeway. During the pursuit, the suspects fired several rounds at deputies. While no officers were injured, a patrol car was struck by gunfire.
The suspects eventually abandoned their vehicle near 139th Street and Parmlee Avenue before fleeing into a nearby neighborhood. Deputies quickly set up a perimeter, and with assistance from the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau, all three suspects were taken into custody by early Wednesday morning. Investigators later recovered three assault rifles from the vehicle.
Hammer, who was injured during the incident, was rushed to a hospital but sadly did not survive.
