SHERIDAN COUNTY, Wyo. — A single-engine plane carrying four passengers crashed Monday in Bighorn National Forest, leaving a 13-year-old girl dead and three others seriously injured.

The Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office reported receiving alerts about a lost and injured party at approximately 4:57 p.m. First Flight rescue and medical teams quickly located the crash site near the north end of the Walker Prairie Trail.

Emergency crews airlifted the three surviving passengers to hospitals in Sheridan and Billings, where they are receiving treatment for serious injuries. Authorities have not released the identities of the victims.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, as officials work to piece together the circumstances leading up to the tragedy. The community mourns the loss of the young girl and keeps the injured in thoughts and prayers.
