Missouri Woman Charged After Shooting Two Women Trying to Break Up a Fight in Jennings Park
JENNINGS, MO — A violent altercation at Koeneman Park in Jennings took a shocking turn over the weekend when a 23-year-old woman allegedly opened fire, injuring two bystanders who were attempting to break up a fight.
Imani Easly, of University City, has been charged in connection with the May 30 shooting that left one woman shot in the arm and another in the chest. According to police, the victims were not involved in the original dispute but were trying to intervene and de-escalate the situation when Easly pulled a firearm and opened fire.
The disturbing incident was captured on video and streamed on Facebook, helping investigators quickly identify Easly as the shooter. Witnesses at the scene also provided key details that led to her arrest. Authorities say Easly later admitted to the shooting during questioning.
She now faces five felony charges, including first-degree assault and armed criminal action. Easly is currently being held in jail on a $500,000 cash-only bond. Her next court appearances are scheduled for June 9 and July 2.
The shooting has sparked concern and outrage in the community, especially given that the victims were attempting to intervene peacefully. Both victims were transported to nearby hospitals, and while their conditions have not been publicly disclosed, authorities have confirmed that they survived the shooting.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of gun violence and how quickly disputes can escalate. Local officials and community leaders are urging residents to find peaceful solutions and to call authorities when confrontations threaten to turn violent.
The investigation is ongoing.
