SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah — Authorities have identified the victims of a fatal plane crash that occurred Sunday evening in the Albion Basin area of Little Cottonwood Canyon near Alta.

The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 55-year-old Christopher Marx was killed in the crash, while 40-year-old Alex Dulude suffered critical injuries. Deputies said the plane went down around 5:30 p.m., prompting a swift emergency response to the rugged canyon terrain.

Dulude was airlifted to the University of Utah Hospital, where he remained in critical condition as of Tuesday night.

The plane, registered to a Maryland-based LLC, had recently traveled a route spanning from Virginia to Nevada in the past 10 days, according to flight records reviewed by Fox 13.

The crash site remains closed as investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) continue their on-site investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

Authorities have not yet released further details about the victims or what may have led to the crash.
