BOONE, NC – A tragic accident in Watauga County claimed the life of a Blowing Rock man after his motorized electric bike struck a deer Tuesday evening.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 8:30 p.m. on September 2, 2025, along North Pine Run Road near Moses Spring Road. Investigators say the rider, Michael Allen Duncan Jr., 55, was ejected from the bike upon impact. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Troopers noted that neither speed nor alcohol appeared to play a role in the crash. The stretch of roadway, just north of Rutherwood, was temporarily impacted as investigators reconstructed the scene.
Authorities have not released details regarding the condition of the deer involved.
The Highway Patrol expressed condolences to Duncan’s family and reminded drivers and riders alike to exercise caution, particularly in rural areas where wildlife crossings are common.
