DENVER, Colo — Authorities have released the identities of both the victim and suspect involved in a deadly shooting at the Chaparral Village mobile home park in Adams County last week.
According to investigators, 27-year-old Dezmond Johnathan Romero was shot and killed during an altercation with 37-year-old Alex Anthony Martinez in the early morning hours of Thursday, Aug. 28.
Deputies were called to the mobile home park near East 88th Avenue and Welby Road at approximately 3:45 a.m. and discovered Romero suffering from a gunshot wound. He died from his injuries at the scene.
Later that same day, around 3:15 p.m., Martinez was arrested without incident at his workplace in Commerce City after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He now faces multiple charges filed by the Adams County District Attorney’s Office, including:
- First-degree murder
- Tampering with physical evidence
Martinez is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Sept. 3.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
