COLUMBUS, Ga. — Columbus police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened early Wednesday morning near a local foundry.

Officers responded to the 1600 block of Northside Industrial Boulevard at Aludyne-Columbus Foundry, where the incident unfolded. Authorities said the victim, 54-year-old Lawrence Mitchell Perry, was transported by a private vehicle to a nearby hospital. He was later pronounced dead, according to Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan.

Bryan confirmed the shooting stemmed from an altercation. Perry’s next of kin has been notified.

The Columbus Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is now leading the investigation. No additional details, including potential suspects, have been released at this time.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
