BLACK ROCK DESERT, Nev. — Authorities have identified the man killed during this year’s Burning Man Festival as Vadim Kruglov, a Russian national remembered by friends as a devoted member of the community.
Kruglov’s body was discovered around 9:15 p.m. on August 30, during the festival’s climactic burning of the wooden “Man” effigy. The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that he was found lying in a pool of blood, prompting a homicide investigation. Officials with the Nevada Bureau of Land Management said Kruglov’s family in Russia has been notified.
Friends and fellow burners described Kruglov as a “true hero of Burning Man”, known for his generosity, creativity, and tireless dedication to building camp structures and contributing art installations. “He poured his soul into our community, always ready to help others and being kind and responsive to everyone,” wrote close friend Sofiia Shcherbakova on Instagram.
Supporters are now working with his family to return his body to his hometown of Omsk, Russia. Meanwhile, law enforcement is actively searching for the suspect. The investigation remains ongoing.
